Hitchcock County Civil Court Dockets

Most Hitchcock County civil docket searches begin with the clerk of the District Court, the office that keeps the local court records for lawsuits, small claims, and probate matters. A search works best when you know a party name, a rough filing year, and the kind of case. The docket itself is a chronological Register of Actions. It lists filings, service, hearings, orders, and judgment activity, and the clerk can help with an original or certified copy of any court record behind it.

Subscriber tools earn their keep when a party name pulls too many hits. Set the county to Hitchcock. Then narrow by County Court or District Court and by civil, small-claims, domestic-relations, probate, or another subtype. General result lists are free, and Details costs $2 per selection. The current official page also lists a $100 annual account charge. It says available images come with the detail charge. A one-time lookup does not need that subscription. The official JUSTICE search page is where a public party-name search starts.

The one-time service publishes no civil case-number format for Hitchcock County. Use the number the clerk gives you or the one case information returns. A demonstration prefix is not a promise about every current local case.

What a Civil Docket Shows

A civil Case Summary names the court, county, case ID, and caption. It also lists the judge, subtype, opening date, status, parties, and attorneys. The Register of Actions then walks the timeline. Expect a complaint or petition, summons or citation, service return, answer, motion, notice, order, hearing, continuance, judgment, dismissal, execution, garnishment, satisfaction, or appeal. A financial section may add receipts. Those receipts carry payment type, date, amount, and fee allocations. Treat that line as a recorded court entry. It does not replace reading the pleadings or the judgment itself.

The state-created JUSTICE demonstration shows these civil Case Summary, financial, and register categories without borrowing any private Hitchcock file.

The demonstration identifier CI 15 0001235 suggests a CI prefix, a two-digit year, then a sequence number. Check the current Hitchcock County format with the clerk before relying on it.

Hitchcock County Civil Court Limits

Hitchcock County's official County Court page places civil cases under $70,000 in County Court. The statute, not the county page, controls if that line moves. Treat the local wording as a routing fact rather than a rule for all of Nebraska. Small Claims Court sits inside County Court. It covers claims up to $7,500 beginning July 1, 2025, exclusive of interest and costs. Bigger civil cases and district domestic-relations matters stay in District Court. The Hitchcock County Court page states the local County Court jurisdiction used for this first cut.

A matter tied to Culbertson, Trenton, Stratton, or Palisade does not come with its own city-court record. Those villages keep no separate municipal court docket. Search the Hitchcock County court with jurisdiction over the filed case.

Types of Civil Cases on the Docket

County Court in Hitchcock County handles civil matters within its limit, plus small claims, probate, guardianship, conservatorship, adoption, eminent-domain matters, and juvenile work. District Court keeps the major civil filings and district domestic-relations records. A caption and subtype offer routing clues. The document and its court header still explain the actual proceeding better than any short label.

  • County Court civil matters within the local jurisdictional amount.
  • Small claims filed in the County Court department.
  • Probate, guardianship, conservatorship, and adoption matters with applicable access limits.
  • District Court major civil and domestic-relations matters.
  • Post-judgment entries such as execution, garnishment, satisfaction, or appeal.

A judgment, default judgment, agreed judgment, nonsuit, dismissal, or satisfaction each carries its own legal effect. The Register of Actions names the event. When the precise effect matters, read the signed order itself.

Hitchcock County Civil CI Records

The public demonstration's CI format works as a visual cue. It is not an asserted exact Hitchcock pattern. One example still shows why the Case Summary and register belong together. The header names the court, case ID, caption, judge, subtype, open date, and status. The register supplies the dated sequence. Its financial area can show filing, garnishment, execution, writ, education, dispute-resolution, legal-aid, or other allocation entries. Money entries need care. A payment record does not establish the current balance or settle the meaning of a judgment.

Whenever a number, party name, or court is uncertain, try the subscriber filters or the free courthouse JUSTICE terminal. The terminal searches by party name or case number. Ask the clerk where it sits.

Hitchcock County Civil Filing Context

The latest county-level filing reports are FY2024 reports. They do not count active cases. Hitchcock County Court recorded 10 civil filings. Hitchcock District Court recorded 13 civil filings. The same reports cover broader docket categories, including domestic relations and protection orders, so a civil docket search should begin with the court and the case type rather than an assumption that every civil matter starts in one court.

These figures describe filings reported for that fiscal year. They say nothing about pending cases, clearance rates, or the age of an individual case.

Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets

For a current or future civil setting, use the Multi-Court Case Calendar by selecting County Court or District Court, selecting Hitchcock, and searching by date or a last name with at least two characters. The calendar is a date tool, not a complete historical docket. The Register of Actions may supply the notice, hearing, continuance, or order that explains a scheduled event. If the two displays appear to conflict, read the newest entry and then contact the court.

District Court civil questions go to Margaret Pollmann, Clerk of the District Court, at 308-334-5646. County Court questions go to Linda K. Smith, County Court Clerk Magistrate, at 308-334-5383. Both offices are at the Hitchcock County Courthouse, 229 East D Street, Trenton. The complete date-search workflow is available on the Hitchcock County court calendar page.

Hitchcock County Civil Service Entries

Service events are easy to misread in a civil register. An entry can record that a summons or citation issued, that service was returned, that mail was returned, or that a notice was filed. None of that resolves the underlying claim. The state demonstration uses full event text for a returned-mail entry. It also shows an Image ID. So inspect the document when it is available. A case can still show an answer, counterclaim, motion, notice, hearing, or order after service.

Service return
Proof entered with the clerk showing how process was delivered and returned.
Default judgment
A judgment entered after a qualifying failure to respond or appear.
Nonsuit
A civil plaintiff’s voluntary ending of a claim, subject to the order’s terms.
DWOP
A dismissal for want of prosecution when an action was not timely advanced under the court’s procedures.

Note: The court publishes no Hitchcock docket-code list. Full event text is safer than expanding an unexplained abbreviation.

Hitchcock County Civil Calendar Checks

For a current or future civil date, the Multi-Court Case Calendar is the public route. Choose County Court or District Court. Select Hitchcock. Then search by date or a last name with at least two characters. A blank result does not show that the matter has no setting. Check the latest Register of Actions hearing entry. If anything is unclear, call the court that holds the civil file.

Public Access to Civil Dockets

Nebraska Rule §1-805 permits electronic public access to party indexes, case summaries, Registers of Actions with available images, calendars, and judgment, order, or decree summaries unless restricted. Protected personal identifiers stay out of the public file. Civil filings carry them in separate confidential appendices under Rule §6-1464. A public viewer can still find a docket entry. The viewer will not see the confidential information or every document image.

Public-file rule. Nebraska Rule §1-805 identifies electronic record categories that may be public. Nebraska Rule §6-1464 requires confidential treatment of listed personal identifiers in civil filings. Neb. Rev. Stat. §84-712 provides the state public-record request route.

When a public document is unavailable, identify the case number, the filing or order, the date range, and whether you want a plain or certified copy. Give all of that to the proper clerk. A written request can go to P.O. Box 248, Trenton, NE 69044-0248. Confirm the receiving office and payment method first.

Hitchcock County Civil Image Requests

A missing image does not mean no filing occurred. JUSTICE describes online images for documents filed or uploaded after April 16, 2008. Confidential status and posting delays still apply. Older material may be paper or microfilm. It can also sit in another retained format or have been lawfully destroyed under the state retention schedule. Try the courthouse terminal or the clerk.

County Court's CC 3:30 copy invoice states $0.25 per page and $1 per seal. District Court posts no online copy fee. Confirm it with Margaret Pollmann's office first.

Hitchcock County Civil Clerk Copies

Two offices split the copy work in Hitchcock County. Linda K. Smith, County Court Clerk Magistrate, handles County Court civil and small-claims copies. Margaret Pollmann, Clerk of the District Court, keeps the District Court civil papers. Give either office the case number whenever you can. Then name the exact document and say whether you need it certified. The courthouse terminal is free for case information. Still, a web view is not a certified document. Call County Court at 308-334-5383 or District Court at 308-334-5646 before you mail a request.
